May 11 (TheLedger) - The opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya filed a no-confidence motion in Parliament on Monday against Transport Minister Wijesinghe, citing the recent train accidents in Kalutara and Vavuniya and what it called the "near-collapse" of the locomotive procurement programme.

The motion has been seconded by 47 MPs and will be debated on 12 November. A government spokesperson dismissed the move as "political theatre," noting the procurement is now eight months overdue under a contract signed by the previous administration.
